A First Marlin!

Hunt Hellums from Austin Texas booked a 12 hour offshore trip on the Blackjack to target marlin.

He got his wish, his first Marlin ever! We were 1 for 4 on the day the marlin he caught was over 100lbs and was taken on 25lb test!

Nice work Hunt!

Early August Fishing Report:

Sharks, Yellowtail and Bonito Fishing are Good!

August 9 - We fished the Coronado Islands for 7 nice yellow tail and over 20 big bonita, with 3 anglers. Pics coming soon.

August 5 - Client Todd Setzer from Sacramento, CA pulled off the San Diego Shark Slam (3 species in one day)!! One of two clients to accomplish this ever with Capt. Dave! Todd landed 2 Hammerhead sharks on heavy stand up gear, estimated in the 300lb class. He hooked and landed 3 mako sharks on fly tackle (up to 150 lbs), and to round out 3 species, added a couple of blue sharks on fly rod as well.

August 1 - The shark fishing is in full swing and some big bonito are around so the average size of the sharks has been big! We still have a few available dates in August and September, so give us a call today!

July 2009 Fishing Report:

Mixed Bag Sharking on Tap

Shark fishing is steady right now, with a mixed bag of blues and makos. A wide range of fish in sizes from 20 to 150 lbs has had the drags screaming on all of the fly rods from the 8 to 14wt! What a blast!

June 2009 Fishing Report:

Shark Fishing is Good

June 20:

Had a great day with fly fishing photographer Copi Vojta, Lou Galvan of Galvan fly reels and our V.I.P. client Mike Lapsley from Four Seasons Guides & Outfitters in Flagstaff, AZ. We managed to release 7 out of 11 makos with a few sharks over 100lbs. Lou brought out the Tournament series Torque 18, Galvan's largest reel, and I have never seen a reel pick up so much line so fast! This reel has a 6" spool diameter and crankin' on this beast you can keep up with the rocket speed of a 100lb class mako! When you are talking about the world's third fastest fish, that's saying a lot! The sharks are in and we are booking up fast, so call today to book your trip!

May 2009 Fishing Report:

Barracuda, Sharks are HOT!

This month has been some great fishing! With water temps in the mid to high 60's, and clean blue water close to the coast, both shark fishing and inshore have been hot!

We have released many blue, mako and thresher sharks this month. The barracuda fishing was as good as it gets, fish busting bait, birds working, fish boiling all morning. We caught 3' long cudas on poppers! The coastal kelp fishing for calico bass has been productive as well. Call today to book your trip!
